Madeleine Peyroux Takes Us To 'The Blue Room'

"The only thing that matters is the song," says songwriter and jazz vocalist Madeleine Peyroux.

You can hear it in the way she delivers every phrase of every song she touches. Her voice often reminds people of Billie Holiday, but be not mistaken, it has a quality and personality all its own that both soothes and captivates. And, like that of Billie Holiday, it has a story all its own as well.

Peyroux is originally from Georgia, but she came of age in Paris living with her mother after her parents divorced. It was on those streets that she learned to sing and perform, and the authenticity and strength of a busker's spirit has stayed with her ever since.

She's currently on tour supporting her new album,
The Blue Room," which has been called a re-examination of classic Ray Charles album, "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music."

Madeleine Peyroux will be performing at the Berklee Performance Center on Sunday.
