Burn-out among doctors is increasingly common. A recent study found almost half of practicing physicians reported symptoms of burnout such as emotional exhaustion, detachment, or a low sense of accomplishment.

Dr. Diane Shannon knows first hand about this. She was working in outpatient clinics around Boston, but found herself feeling increasingly stressed and overwhelmed. So 17 years ago she quit. And she wrote about her experience on WBUR's Commnhealth blog.

Guest

Diane Shannon, M.D., MPH, freelance writer who focuses on performance improvement in health care.

This segment aired on October 29, 2013.
