Last week, the Boston Public Health Commission reported its first flu-related death of the season — a man in his sixties. Nationally, influenza kills 24,000 people every year. But how do we know if that fever, cough and aching body is the real thing or just a nasty cold? Now, researchers at Boston Children's Hospital have come up with a new home flu test to help track the spread of influenza.

Guests

Carey Goldberg, co-host of WBUR's CommonHealth blog

Dr Rumi Chunara, lead researcher at GoViral and  an instructor at the Harvard Medical School.

This segment aired on January 13, 2014.
