Resume

You've heard the terms: helicopter parenting, attachment parenting, permissive, protective, indulgent parenting, parents who are unwilling to set limits and never let their kids fail, etc. Whatever you call it, parents are told now days that they're creating spoiled little monsters — kids who grow up to be entitled, lazy, narcissistic adults.

Alfie Kohn looks at all of that and says, "WRONG". The Boston-based education writer challenges every claim that parents need to be tougher on their kids in his new book, The Myth of the Spoiled Child: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom about Children and Parenting.

Guest

Alfie Kohn, Boston-based education writer and author of The Myth of the Spoiled Child: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom about Children and Parenting.

This segment aired on April 1, 2014.
