Tuesday night, the president laid out an ambitious agenda, including free community college, paid sick leave for workers and more assistance for education, child care and retirement savings for the middle class. It would be paid for — in large part — by higher taxes on wealthy Americans.

"Middle class economics works," said the president. "Expanding opportunity works. And these policies will continue to work, as long as politics don’t get in the way."

Republicans have already called the president's proposal on taxes dead on arrival.
