Alex Cora, the bench coach for the Houston Astros, was hired as the new manager of the Boston Red Sox.

Cora played 14 season in the major leagues, three of which were spent as an infielder for the Red Sox. He agreed to a three-year contract that will run through the 2020 season with a club option for the 2021 season.

Previous manager John Farrell was fired earlier this month after the Astros beat the Sox, knocking them out of the Division Series postseason.
