Dave deBronkart, or "e-patient Dave," found the information he needed to fight late-stage kidney cancer in the online support communities that his doctor prescribed.

Since his recovery, he and his physician, Dr. Danny Sands, have co-founded the Society For Participatory Medicine and have co-authored a book, "Let Patients Help!: A "Patient Engagement" Handbook — How Doctors, Nurses, Patients and Caregivers Can Partner for Better Care."
