Governor Baker Sends Police Reform Bill Back To Legislature, With Amendments

Governor Charlie Baker is sending the landmark police reform bill back to the legislature, with amendments.

Baker says he's broadly supporting key aspects of the reform bill, like an independent commission to certify and de-certify police officers, but is asking the legislature to change some aspects of it, such which state office in charge of police training.

We speak with two state lawmakers key to drafting the bill, and getting it through the legislature: Representative Liz Miranda, who represents Roxbury and Dorchester; and Representative Russell Holmes, who represents parts of Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Roslindale, and Jamaica Plain.
