Here is the Radio Boston rundown for Jan. 28. Tiziana Dearing is our host.

  • Boston Police Commissioner William Gross announced on Thursday that he will be stepping down and retiring, effective Friday. We get the latest from Bill Forry, editor and publisher of The Dorchester Reporter.
  • Boston City Councilor Annissa Essaibi George has joined two of her colleagues in Boston's mayoral race, officially announcing her candidacy on Thursday. Councilor George joins us to talk about why she decided to enter the race, and what she sees as the most important issues for the city of Boston moving forward. Two other Boston City Councilors, Andrea Campbell and Michelle Wu, were already in the race, and recently came out with significant public health initiatives. We hear from both of them today, too.
  • We take listener calls with The Boston Globe's Billy Baker, about loneliness and the importance of friendship. He has a new memoir: "We Need To Hang Out."

This program aired on January 28, 2021.
