In Massachusetts, overweight and obese residents are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and the Commonwealth's website encourages residents to calculate their body mass index (BMI) to determine their eligibility. But what is BMI, and is it really an accurate measure of health? Plus, how do we create a more positive narrative around weight gain and diet changes during the pandemic?

We discuss the misconceptions around BMI and the relationship between weight and health in the pandemic with Juna Gjata and Dr. Eddie Phillips of WBUR's "Food, We Need to Talk" podcast. Dr. Phillips is also assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, and founder and director of the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine (ILM) at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

This segment aired on April 12, 2021.
