Thousands Of Affordable Housing Tenants At Risk

According to the City of Boston, it had more than 55,000 housing units restricted for low-income renters at the end of 2020. And recent WBUR polling shows housing costs on the short list of critical issues for Boston voters.

Boston nonprofit Tenants’ Development Corporation (TDC) manages several low-income, historic brownstones in the South End. They are fighting to try to protect some affordable housing units from being bought by investment firms trying to cash in on the properties.

WBUR’s investigative team has found that this is a common practice for firms around the country. Senior Investigative Editor-Reporter Christine Willemsen joins us to talk more about it. We're also joined by David Davenport, the lawyer representing TDC.

This segment aired on April 29, 2021. The audio for this segment is not available.
