Spiral galaxies like NGC 3949 pictured in this Hubble image, released Thursday Aug. 5, 2004 shows a galaxy that is similar in shape and structure to our home galaxy. Our Sun and solar system are embedded in a broad pancake of stars deep within the disk of the Milky Way galaxy. Even from a distance it is impossible to see our galaxy's large-scale features other than the disk. The next best thing is to look farther out into the universe at galaxies that are similar in shape and structure to our home galaxy. (AP Photo/NASA)

This is the Radio Boston rundown for April 14. Our host is Tiziana Dearing.

  • We speak with Dr. Eugene Chan, a doctor in Bedford who spent a decade creating a handheld device that could help diagnose diseases in space. The rHEALTH ONE is a real-life version of the tricorder, a fictional medical tool of Star Trek fame. It's currently being tested by NASA at the International Space Station.
  • There are some exciting celestial events happening in our solar system over the next two weeks. We check in with Sky & Telescope magazine, published in Cambridge, to see when and where Bostonians should observe the night sky.
  • Between the Red Sox home opener, the Celtics starting a playoff run, and the Boston Marathon returning to its springtime date, it’s an exciting time for Boston sports fans. We preview the next four days in Boston sports with Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy and WBUR’s Alex Ashlock.

This program aired on April 14, 2022.
