One in two people in Boston get their health care from a community health center.

That's not surprising, though, because back in 1965, Dorchester became home to the first community health center in the country. It was then called Columbia Point Health. It still exists today, along with 52 others in the Commonwealth.

But the country's first rural health center was in Mississippi. Residents from Brigham and Women's Hospital visited that center this fall with the goal of learning how the civil rights history that led to its existence could teach better health equity today. We hear from two people who went on that trip.

This segment aired on November 1, 2022.
