Unpacking the data on MIT's incoming class after the end of affirmative action

06:49

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology says its incoming class will be less diverse than in previous years. The class of 2028 will be made up of 16% Black, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander students, compared with 25% enrollment among those groups in the years 2024 to 2027. The school attributed the drop to the 2023 Supreme Court decision that ended race-conscious admissions in American higher education.

WBUR assistant managing editor of education Suevon Lee joins Radio Boston to discuss the new data.

This segment aired on August 23, 2024.
