Fight over non-competes pits Mass. businesses against each other

Gov. Maura Healey is wading into a battle between key industries in Massachusetts.

She wants to crack down on non-compete agreements that limit workers' ability to leave their job and go work for a rival firm. Some top tech leaders want non-competes banned; leaders in other industries see them as essential to doing business.

Peter Karol and Bhamati Viswanathan, two intellectual property lawyers who teach at Suffolk Law, join WBUR's Morning Edition to explain the contours and stakes of this fight.

This segment aired on June 9, 2026. Audio will be available soon.
