Resume

For 25 years, ALEA III has provided a venue for new compositions under the baton of Theodore Antoniou. Most recently, ALEA III performed the works of the six finalists of the 20th International Composition Competition for Young Composers. This year, there were 160 pieces submitted from 35 countries. The six finalist pieces were by Mei-Fang Lin, Timothy Melbinger, Panagiotis Liaropoulos, Orie Sato, Sara Carvalho, and Diego Vega. We listened to some of these new compositions, and spoke with ALEA III music director Theodore Antoniou, and the concert producer Alexandros Kalogeras.

The Boston University community lost an internationally renowned figure with the untimely death of Professor of Homiletics, Rev. Dr. Anthony Cardova Campbell on September 27, 2002. At 63, Campbell was known around the world for the warmth and power of his sermons, and for the scores of preachers he mentored over the years. Among his many accomplishments was his revival of the preaching forum. The late Reverend Campbell himself was preeminent among preachers. In memoriam, we heard excerpts from one of the last sermons he preached.

This program aired on October 6, 2002.
