Caritas Sale a Symptom of Change

The Archdiocese of Boston is checking out of the health care business. Officials announced yesterday that the church plans to sell its six-hospital system, Caritas Christi Health Care. The proposed sale involves a Missouri-based Catholic hospital network, Ascension Health Incorporated.

This latest move is part of a trend that's seen the Archdiocese make management decisions that have reduced its reach into aspects of society in recent years. WBUR's Monica Brady-Myerov now looks at whether this is also having an impact on the church's mission.
