Voice Of The Faithful Raises Needed Operating Funds

Community supporters have saved a Catholic reform group from dire financial struggles, for now.

In an appeal to members, Voice of the Faithful had warned last week they would be forced to close their national headquarters in Needham if they did not raise $60,000 by the end of the month.

Voice of the Faithful President Dan Bartley said that, in just over a week, $70,000 has been raised to meet July and August's operating costs.

The swift fundraising effort allows the group to implement a new long-term strategic plan for membership growth to ensure the organization's future sustainability.

"Rather than any one-size-fits-all approach to our membership and inviting them to participate in our organization, we've created five platforms," Bartley said, "so that people can plug into the organization and get involved in the areas they're most interested in."

Voice of the Faithful was founded in 2002 amidst the Catholic priest abuse scandal. Their mission includes supporting sex abuse victims and what they call "priests of integrity."

The organization has evolved from a single church group into a network of national and international chapters that aim for structural change in the Catholic Church.
