The Associated PressBoston Transit Worker Caught Texting

Published November 13, 2009

BOSTON — An MBTA driver has been suspended and is facing termination after being caught sending a text message while operating a Green Line trolley.

Spokesman Joe Pesaturo says the employee was suspended without pay Thursday and will be the third MBTA worker fired under the agency’s zero-tolerance texting policy.

WBZ-TV first reported that Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officials were alerted by a commuter who they say captured video of the driver texting Monday while the trolley was in motion.

The operator was identified only as a 45-year-old male with 24 years of service.

The policy was put in place after the May 8 crash in which T authorities said former operator Aiden Quinn was texting his girlfriend as his trolley rear-ended another, injuring 62 people and causing $9 million in damage.

  • Now you have to be a complete idiot to have or use cell phone while driving the T and not think that you would be caught. That’s 24 years of good service down the drain. Was it worth the text message?
