Senate Race Underway, With Little Notice

Published December 17, 2009

BOSTON — In the race for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat, Republican state Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley are both having trouble attracting the attention of voters and the media.

What if they held a campaign event and no media except for WBUR turned up? That’s what happened to both major-party candidates in the U.S. Senate race Wednesday.

Scott Brown stood alone at a podium next to a giant restaurant tab that he called the “Martha Coakley Tax Bill,” and warned of additional taxes Massachusetts voters would have to pay if Coakley gets to the Senate and Democrats have their way.

Brown called his wife, Gail Huff, a reporter for WCVB-TV (Ch. 5), to find out why none of the television crews turned out for his press conference at his Needham campaign headquarters. Turns out the TV crews were covering a road rage incident.

Coakley wasn’t getting much attention, either. Only WBUR covered her address to realtors.

The general election is being held on Jan. 19.

  • To the good people of Massachusetts. Please get out and vote for Scott Brown. Understand that by sending Scott Brown will undercut the 60 votes the Senate needs to cram the socialist agenda of health care, cap and trade and now amnesty for illegal aliens down the Nation’s throat. Check out the news today, next up amnesty. How will amnesty impact jobs and the cost of health care?

We need to stop the rendering of the Constitution. Massachusetts stood tall in the Revolutionary War.This vote is another do or die situation for our Nation. Stop the slide our Country is in until it can be righted in 2010 and 2012. The eyes of the Nation are on you, do the right thing.
