WBURBrown Hits Back After Negative Coakley Ad

BOSTON — After the feisty last debate between state Sen. Scott Brown and his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Massachusetts Democratic party started running an ad in which a man’s ominous voice asks: “Who is Scott Brown, really? A Republican, in lockstep with Washington Republicans.”

The ad juxtaposes pictures of Brown, former President George W. Bush, and former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Brown is countering with his own ad, in which he says: “By now, you’ve probably seen the negative ads launched by Martha Coakley and her supporters.”

Brown’s ad shows a picture of Coakley with Gov. Deval Patrick and former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi. It appears just a week before the crucial Senate election that could determine whether President Obama’s health care reform passes the Senate.

Moderate Democrats, Republicans, and Independents agree: Scott Brown for Senate!

  • AH

Say “no” to Martha Coakley and Deval Patrick!

  • Bill45

Citizens of Massachusetts, your country needs you now as we needed you in 1775. Scott Brown for Senate

  • Mike

We have got to break this cycle of government growth or our children will live in a vastly different state and country.

Make sure you get out and vote!

  • SouthendBos

Scott said “It is clear that my message of restoring checks and balances in Washington as an independent voice for Massachusetts is resonating with people who are concerned about the direction of our country.”

How is accepting 16,000 donations from “people across the country” totalling $1.3M making him an “independent voice FOR Massachusetts?”

  • Mary

Vote for Brown on Tues Jan 19. Ask your family and friends to vote along with you. This is an exciting time for Massachusetts and the country. Send money if you can–whatever you can. Go Scott Brown!

NEW RASMUSSEN POLL, MONDAY JAN 19 – from Politico

Scott Rasmussen, whose poll was the first to suggest a tight race in Massachusetts, is out with a new poll showing Democrat Martha Coakley up just 2 percentage points over Republican Scott Brown.

Rasmussen reports that Coakley has 49 percent of voters’ support to Brown’s 47 percent.

His results differ dramatically from polls in recent days by the Boston Globe and by a Democratic pollster, Mark Mellman, both of which showed Coakley with a double-digit lead, though they are closer to a poll from another Democratic firm that showed a tight race. The poll was taken last night.

I’d like to donate to the Scott Brown campaign, but I can’t find a thing on the internet where I can. Can you help me? Thanks! Marsha

  • SouthendBos

@Marsha —- Marsha, Marsha, Marsha! Should you even be allowed to vote if you’re not smart enough to Google Scott Brown’s campaign, or the RNC? Or dial 4-1-1 for directory assistance? Me thinks you are just a Brown plant attempting clutter up comment pages on web sites. Come on, honey.

  • Randy

Power corrupts and 60 democrats voting in the senate is absolute corruption. I just sent in my $200.00. Go Scott!

  • Flatty

I agree with SouthendBos. Whatever happened to the good ol’ days when political contributions in Massachusetts were limited to garnished wages from trade unions members, state union members, and Billionaire Marxists. Private citizens trying to influence politics is Anti-Socialist! The nerve of you peasants.

  • Ferris Sanders

New rasmussen poll has them at a dead heat. I feel the momentum shifting in Mr. Brown’s favor. Looking forward to democrats trying to stop him from the health care vote after he is elected. It will show their true colors.
    ****VOTE SCOTT BROWN JAN.19th****

  • james

how about all you out-of-staters worry about what’s going on in your state and butt out of ours? Especially you teabagger idiots – I have news for you, brown is just another GOP sheep. He isn’t as far right as you fascists. He isn’t an ‘independent voice’, and at best could be called a moderate republican, you know like dede Scozzafava whom you shouted out of the race in upstate new york and the democrat won the seat for the first time in almost 100 years? Yeah, that worked out real well for ya – boneheads.

If you think electing brown will help anything, you’re badly mistaken. When coakley wins you can all go turn on fox news and have good cry with glenn beck.

  • Bob Fowler

James (first post) with his nasty, name-calling remarks, is the kind of mean spirited, left-leaning voter who got us into the political quagmire we are currently in. Scott Brown is a breath of fresh air and apparently James is a part of the “win for my party at all costs” mentality that is really hurting politics right now. Come on, james — let’s stop the name calling and focus on issues and on helping everyone, not just your party.

  • Rodolfo Hanabergh

    To James:
There has to be something good about certain republicans in Massachussetts that had them elected (Weld, Romney, etc.) If they are not or were not totally true to their conservative principles is due to the blue contamination that has contaminated the state that once was a symbol of patriotism, not socialism.

  • SouthendBos

Hey – tea-baggers — call me when your adult-aged kid is croaking from leukemia and your employer-sponsored insurance reached it’s lifetime-per-member cap, and you have to sell everything you own to keep him/her alive. You’ll change your tune real fast — much like Scott who maligns these “entitlement” programs who now trumpets his youthful stint on welfare. I’m sure he and his mother were glad it was available so he could get his government cheese off the back of a truck. Give me a break!

  • SouthendBos

@Evon — it’s curious how “Marsha” had the wherwithall and I.T. skillset to locate a comment thread from a news story on a Boston-based radio station, but somehow, couldn’t find Scott’s website. I believe all of these pro-Brown comments are originating from Scott’s headquarters. WBUR – can you check the I.P. addresses to see if “Evon”, “Marsha”, “AH”, “Camron”, etc. are all the same person?

  • SouthendBos

It’s also curious that the “Christian” right-wing who runs the Republican party isn’t mentioning Scott’s nude spread in Cosmopolitan with his hand covering his package. And, now with his unceasing quest for the spotlight, and his daughter’s failed American Idol stint, and then the teary-eyed press conference in daddy’s defense, I’m beginning to think the whole Brown family suffers from either Borderline or Narcissistic Personality Disorder….. “Look at me!!! Look at me!!! Look at me!!!!”

  • Susan O’Donnell

Scott I wish I could vote for you, but I did what I could and sent you campaign contribution. You have LOTS of support all over the country.

    Supporter from Ashland Oregon

  • Steve

Love these “out of state” posters (Coakley activists) saying they’ve contributed to Brown’s campaign…Here’s one for them..my $$ was part of the half-million Scott brought-in yesterday, and I live RIGHT HERE in Massachusetts.

Meanwhile noticed Coakley down in DC yesterday trolling for big pharma/insurance cash…how’s that for change you can believe in? Real change is coming in November!

  • bo

James and SouthendBos are here showing the desperation of the democrats with the name calling and labeling groups of people.
How to add to the dialogue.

  • thedeb

Scott Brown is currently my State Senator. He is a Republican, and he votes as a Republican. So, he will not be supporting most of the things I care about, like health care reform, marriage equality and ending the wars we are currently engaged in. Don’t kid yourself that he is an “independent”. Any independence he may have will come to a screeching halt if he becomes the Senator with the 41st vote for the Republicans. What we have all seen in the past year is that the Republicans don’t want any moderates, they want people as far to the right as they can get.

  • SouthendBos

I wrote to Scott yesterday asking EXACTLY what he is proposing when his site states clearly that “I believe every Amerian is entitled to healthcare.” It’s clear he’s against the current legislation. What IS his alternative proposal? Nothing — because the Republicans don’t want the current system changed. Period. And surprisingly, no reply from Scott. He’s probably too busy wiping tears off his daughter’s cheeks because Coackley asked him why he SPONSORED legislation that would have allowed for a doctor to not offer morning-after contraception to a rape victim. Scott, of course, was all indignant saying he would never do such a thing. And his daughters consider that an attack? How is bringing up the fact that he himself introduced the amendment? She was simply asking for his rationale. It’s not an attack. Obviously, he’s another Romney — say ANYTHING to get elected, and then, do exactly the opposite.

  • 2012freedom

For God’s sake, the police officers are backing Scott Brown. They should know Coakley better than anyone else. Vote Scott Brown and support your police officers!

  • SouthendBos

@2012freedom — Did you endorse voting for Clinton when all the national police organizations were supporting Clinton? Perhaps – but I’d guess not.

  • 2012freedom

SouthendBos – Both Clinton and Bush were endorsed by the police unions at different times.

  • SouthendBos

@2012freedom: Did you use the past police endorsement as justification for voting for either Clinton or Bush? If not, then why provide it now as justification for voting for Brown?

  • Stephen

    Please God

In this one our Countries Darkest Moments. I and Millions
of Americans are Praying for Scott Brown. At this Moment
in History Massachuetts has a Chance to Help and Save Our Country
God Bless America and God Damm Obama’s Socialist Agenda

  • nehat saliu

Philosophically there is not a Republican Political Party at this moment in the political arena in the USA. Nothing against Scott Brown, being a republican ” he should not win for the very simple fact that the Republican Party does not exist. If he was a independent candidate he would have the uncontested right to be voted.
    With great respect,
    Nick,

  • Frank Patriot

I would suggest that every able-bodied man, woman and child show up to support Scott Brown at the Coakley event. I would bring in every Patriot from across the state to let Obama know that we are taking back OUR country. It is like sending out a call for the Minutemen to meet on the village greens. The time has come America. What better way to show the world the New American Revolution. Will will take back our country from the Liberals and let it begin where it began over 200 years ago! When the media comes to cover Clinton the Patriots of this great land will be there to greet him. Let’s see the media spin it then! Cut and paste this comment to every comment section in the Boston Globe. E-mail it to other towns. Send it to your friends. Send it to the Tea Baggers as Obama, Pelosi and Reed refer to true Patriots. Show them how the Patriots are going to move this country in the other direction and let it be a message to the world that there is a whole new United States of America being born!

    So through the night rode Paul Revere;
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,—
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

CUT AND PASTE AND GET THE WORD OUT!

  • Flatty

Picture this on the eve of Scott’s victory, 500,000 Patriots wearing T-Shirts exclaiming:

MASSACHUSETTS — AMERICA’S NEWEST “RED” STATE!

Now that will be a beautiful thing.

  • Rodolfo Hanabergh

    Mr Nick,
you are supposed to vote for the best qualified, with overall better ideas, candidate.
And, by the way, if the “philosophy” of the democratic party is to impose a monstruous HC bill,to weaken our national defense,to promote the killing of the unborn, to be lenient with criminals, to open our borders,to cater to the unions,to create more dependency on an obtrusive government, to attack traditional marriage, to assult the 2nd amendment, etc. I would not be too proud to support Coakley.

  • Ohio Teabagger

Go Scott…Ohio is behind you too! Help us put an end to the corrupt socialists and Obamanomics that are ruining our great country.

  • Susan O’Donnell

It’s NOT Ted Kennedy’s seat; it’s NOT the Democrat’s seat; it IS the people’s SEAT!!!

    Ashland Oregon FOR Scott Brown!!!

  • Jim

What a classy, upstanding great response. Martha is ugly inside and out, and she shows it more each day. Today, she will “continue the work of Martin Luther King” she told a huge group of African Americans in Boston at MLK celebration. How frikken delusional is this arrogant woman???????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Elaine

Let’s pray Christians that Brown wins this election in Massachuetts.

  • JonJon

So Scott Brown is a wealthy white guy who admits to receiving welfare Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
