Rep. Delahunt Says Amy Bishop Case Won't Affect His Re-Election

U.S. Rep. William Delahunt says a case he handled more than 20 years ago as a local prosecutor won't have a bearing on his decision whether to seek re-election.

The Democrat who represents the South Shore and Cape Cod said his decision is "not easy" and he expects to make it soon.

Delahunt, the former Norfolk district attorney, on Monday defended his handling of the 1986 case of Amy Bishop, who killed her brother in what was ruled an accidental shooting. Bishop was never charged.

Bishop is accused of fatally shooting three colleagues at the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Feb. 12.

Delahunt is facing challenges from several Republicans, including state Rep. Jeff Perry. Former Republican state Treasurer Joseph Malone is also said to be weighing a run.

This program aired on February 22, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
