WBURListen: Very ‘Inviting’ Time For Brown Election Model, Says Politico’s Allen

BOSTON — The political team that helped Sen. Scott Brown stage a stunning victory in Massachusetts’ U.S. Senate special general election in January is hoping to apply that strategy to other races this year.

And they are starting with another Kennedy seat. In Rhode Island, The Shawmut Group is helping Republican candidate John Loughlin in his campaign to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy.

Politico’s senior White House correspondent, Mike Allen, joined WBUR recently to discuss what GOP strategists could adopt from the so-called “Brown model.”

“(Brown’s strategy) could not be more inviting at a time when people don’t like Washington, don’t like dynasties,” Allen said. “The idea of something fresh coming in is tailor-made.”

So much has been made about Scott Brown’s election victory, but Martha Coakley ran about the most inept campaign I have seen since Kerry Healy’s recent loss to Deval Patrick. Martha made Scott look good. I think that is overlooked by too many.

Charlie, I hope you’re right. I saw my first – and only – Coakley bumper sticker two weeks ago. I didn’t vote for Scott Brown and I find him and his party loathsome, but the candidate who bothered to campaign deserves to win.
