Mass. To Begin Aerial Spray For Mosquitoes Wed.

Gov. Deval Patrick says aerial spraying of mosquitoes will begin Wednesday night in several southeastern Massachusetts communities to counter the risk of Eastern equine encephalitis.

Patrick spoke Tuesday in Lakeville, one of the affected communities. He first announced the program for Plymouth and Bristol counties over the weekend.

"By conducting aerial spraying we can reduce this elevated risk to residents in southeastern Massachusetts, those who are currently at the highest risk of triple-E," Patrick said.

The governor said state health officials have found levels of EEE in mosquitoes that are the highest in decades and a major public health risk.

No human cases of EEE have been reported this year.
