Three Plead Not Guilty In Boston Pizza Driver Slaying

Three Boston residents accused of luring a pizza delivery driver to a vacant home before robbing him, stabbing him to death and stealing his car pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Michel Andre St. Jean, 20, Alexander Emmanuel Gallett, 18, and Yamiley Mathurin, 17, were arraigned in West Roxbury Municipal Court and ordered held without bail.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Hickman said they planned to kill Richel Nova when he delivered a pizza they ordered Thursday.

"It was never their intention that Richel Nova would leave that home in any other way than a body bag," Hickman said.

Hickman said Mathurin used a neighbor's phone to call the Domino's pizza shop where the 58-year-old Nova worked.

When Nova arrived at the house, Mathurin lured him inside by telling him she had to get her wallet, Hickman said. She said the three then stabbed him repeatedly in the chest and slashed his neck.

St. Jean's lawyer, Jeffrey Karp, said his client is "a typical 20-year-old" who "was planning on bettering himself, like most kids his age."

"My client is a 20-year-old young man who, as far as I know, has never been in trouble with the law and is not a thug and is not a terrorist, as he's being described," Karp said.

Steven Sack, an attorney representing Yamiley Mathurin, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Gallett's attorney, Peter Krupp, declined to comment.
