FRAMINGHAM, Mass. Like the rest of country, the retail economy here — and in Massachusetts as a whole — has taken a hit during the recession. But increased sales may be on the horizon if the economy improves in the coming months, says to Kathleen Seiders, an associate professor of marketing at Boston College.
“It’s been a very tough couple of years since the recession hit, but right now things are on an uptick, and retailers are pretty optimistic about the season that’s coming up,” Seiders said.
“Sales are improving — slowly, but they’re improving — and it could be that the holiday season will be able to get the industry back on its feet,” she said.
WBUR’s Bob Oakes spoke with Seiders to get a full picture of how the region’s retail economy is looking now.
