Corruption Trial Set For Boston City Councilor

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner is vowing to clear his name as his trial on federal corruption charges is about to get under way.

Turner is accused of accepting a $1,000 cash bribe from a businessman who wanted help in getting a liquor license, then lying about it to FBI agents.

Turner, a longtime community activist and city councilor, has strongly denied the allegations and says he plans to take the witness stand at his trial to defend himself.

He is charged with attempted extortion and three counts of making false statements.

Turner says his arrest was politically motivated.

Jury selection is expected to begin Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boston.
