WBUR-FM received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Overall Excellence Award Monday night. At the annual ceremony held in New York, the Radio Television Digital News Association presented the journalism award to WBUR Managing Director Of News And Programming Samuel Fleming.

“Amazing work work is produced when reporters, editors and producers do exceptional work on ordinary stories, and who, when confronted with a huge story, go beyond exceptional to extraordinary,” Fleming said during his acceptance speech on behalf of the station.

WBUR joins NBC News, CBS News Radio and other media organizations in receiving the award, named after pioneering journalism legend Edward R. Murrow.

“Edward R. Murrow is synonymous with journalism excellence,” said RTDNA Chairman Mark Kraham in a release. “This dinner not only serves as an opportunity to have journalism’s best in the same room, but also as a way to honor Murrow’s extraordinary legacy.”

RTNDA has given out Murrow awards since 1971.

Congratulations to all at WBUR! I am a great fan of Bob Oakes, Tom Ashbrook and
Robin Young and Delores Handy and the rest of the team I have gotten to know at WBUR. So I share your pride today and I hope you will never treat reporters and presenters like CNN and the Whitehouse for speaking their mind.

I appreciate honesty and directness and I would like to think WBUR does also.

Besides , the truth cannot be silenced or fired and people like myself are sick of reporters and others being hushed up in our local and national media over the
last decade and have gone on to create their own news clearing houses of news
as a response to this void.

So, all the more reason to remain open to different view points and never apol-
ogize for the truth or the inconvenience it can cause…Many thanks again, and congratualtions to all the staff at WBUR! Dee
