More Than 2 Million Voters Expected On Election Day

BOSTON — After months of campaigns, debates and political ads, Election Day is finally here. Polls statewide are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Major races include governor, state treasurer, attorney general and contests in nine of the state’s 10 congressional districts. Voters will also weigh in on three ballot initiatives.

Candidates are making one final push this morning, greeting voters at polling locations across the state, and there are already signs that voter turnout will be high.

Already there are more absentee ballots cast than there were before January’s special Senate election. Secretary of State William Galvin says the main difference now is where the ballots are from.

“We’re seeing more activity in urban areas now over the January election. We also see continued sustained activity in some of the non-urban areas, similar to what we saw in January,” Galvin said.

Galvin said the governor’s race, the congressional contests, the three ballot questions and the nice weather will also contribute to a likely turnout of some 2.4 million voters.
