WBURExpert: Controversial BU Site Governed More By Contract Between Entities

BOSTON — Here’s a story about a college ranking site that has nothing to do with books and everything to do with looks.

RateBU.com invites users to post photos of women who are students at Boston University, then people can click on the one they think is “hottest.” Just six days after it launched, the site has generated 1,614,244votes for 819 women.

The site has generated a lot of controversy, too, as well as some legal questions. WBUR’s Deborah Becker spoke with Internet law expert John Palfrey about the legal implications of this site on Thursday’s Morning Edition. Palfrey is co-director of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.
