First Snowfall Slows Boston-Area Roads

Roadways were slippery Monday evening as a result of the first notable snowfall of the season in the Boston area.

WCVB-TV meteorologist Harvey Leonard said the snow will continue through Tuesday morning.

"Even though we're not getting a major snowstorm here in Boston, it is probably going to snow all night long and into (Tuesday) morning," Leonard said. "So it's going to be a lot of hours of snow."

Leonard predicted "a coating" to 2 inches of snow by early Tuesday. Areas south of Boston could get 3-5 inches.

Monday evening's commute was disrupted by the snow, as numerous crashes and spin-outs were reported on slick roadways.

"We're not going to get heavy amounts of snow, but the air is cold, and untreated surfaces are quickly getting covered, so it's making things slippery," Leonard said.
