DA: We Were Never Told Of Parole Hearing

A spokeswoman for the Middlesex district attorney says the office would have objected to parole for a career criminal who fatally shot a Woburn police officer, but they were never notified of his parole hearing.

John Grossman, the state's undersecretary of public safety and security, tells The Boston Globe that two Parole Board employees assigned to notify prosecutors before Dominic Cinelli's parole hearing in 2008 failed to do so.

The reasons are unclear.

Gov. Deval Patrick has ordered a review of the decision to parole Cinelli in March 2009.

Authorities say the 57-year-old Cinelli shot and killed 60-year-old Officer John Maguire during a robbery at a Woburn department store Monday. Cinelli was also killed in the exchange of gunfire.

The district attorney's office had strongly objected to Cinelli's release at prior parole hearings.
