Maestro James Levine Bows Out For BSO Season

BOSTON — Maestro James Levine has withdrawn from the rest of the Boston Symphony Orchestra season.

After months of concern and speculation, Levine will neither take the podium here in Boston, nor at New York’s Carnegie Hall, nor Washington’s Kennedy Center.

In a statement, the BSO said Levine has been forced to cancel all appearances because of debilitating back problems compounded by a recent viral infection.
