Mass. House Backs $50M In Added Snow Removal Funds

Even as another potentially major snow storm bears down, the Massachusetts House has voted to spend nearly $50 million to replenish the state's depleted snow and ice removal budget.

The money was part of a $325 million supplemental spending plan approved by lawmakers on Wednesday.

The state's snow removal budget was battered by a series of storms that forced schools to close and caused dozens of roofs to collapse across the state.

Republicans unsuccessfully sought an additional $25 million that would be sent directly to cities and towns to help offset their local snow removal costs.

The spending plan now goes to the Senate.

The National Weather Service says an approaching spring storm could drop up to a foot of snow on central and western portions of the state later this week.
