BOSTON — The state’s top political leaders including Gov. Deval Patrick are listed as potential witnesses in the upcoming corruption trial of former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi and two co-defendants.
Documents made public in the case identify 43 possible witnesses for the prosecution including Patrick and his former top political strategist, Doug Rubin.
The defense’s list of possible witnesses also includes the governor, as well as current House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray.
All of the names on the list will not necessarily be called to testify at the trial, which is scheduled to begin next week.
DiMasi, Joseph McDonough and Richard Vitale are charged with scheming to rig lucrative state contracts for the software company Cognos in exchange for payments, with DiMasi allegedly pocketing $57,000.
