Patrick Proposes $6M For Youth Summer Jobs

Gov. Deval Patrick on Tuesday announced $6 million in funding for youth job programs for this summer.

Speaking in Brockton, Patrick says the money is geared toward creating 3,000 jobs. He says 15 percent of the jobs will be targeted at so-called at-risk youth.

"People who are at risk of violence of themselves or of being subjected to violence, the positive alternative in the form of a summer job is enormously important," the governor said.

"Data and research show that teens who work are more likely to be employed and earn more through their adult lives."

An estimated two dozen communities would receive funding as part of the program.
