Mass. Treasurer Seeks To Revoke DiMasi's Pension

State Treasurer Steve Grossman is taking steps to revoke the pension of convicted former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi.

DiMasi was convicted of corruption charges Wednesday, and Grossman is recommending DiMasi's pension be suspended immediately, while the state moves to revoke it permanently.

"I believe the suspension of the pension benefits now while we move forward with the forfeiture proceedings is both appropriate and consistent with past policy," Grossman said early Friday.

"If we do suspend his pension benefits while the proceedings go forward, then taxpayers' dollars would not be expended in the interim."

Grossman says forfeiture proceedings can take up to several months to complete.

DiMasi currently receives a $5,00-a-month pension.

Also Friday, via court documents made available to the public, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Wolf has agreed to postpone DiMasi's sentencing from Aug. 18 to Sept. 8 to accommodate lawyers' schedules.
