BOSTON — A violent Fourth of July in Boston ended with four people dead and nine others injured in a spate of shootings and stabbings across five of the city's neighborhoods.

Just after 7 p.m. Monday night, police said one person was shot and killed on Hollander Street in Roxbury. Nearly three hours later, one person was killed and two others injured in a shooting on Norton Street in Dorchester.

Just after midnight, police said two people were shot and killed in a car on Columbia Road in Dorchester. The car then crashed into a building.

As of late Tuesday morning, no information on the victims was released.

There were five other violent incidents Monday night — three stabbings and two shootings — in Back Bay, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury and the South End. One of those injured is in critical condition. All others are in stable condition or suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Allen Mucasm was trying to get home with his two sons after watching the fireworks Monday night when police turned him away because of the Norton Street shooting.

"It was nice to be over there — all of the loud noises, the bright lights," he said. "To come back to this grim existence now, it's sad to see what Dorchester is turning into. It's getting worse."
