Brown Looks Strong In Latest Poll

A new poll shows Republican Sen. Scott Brown is the most popular politician in Massachusetts, but his approval rating has fallen from a year ago.

Forty-nine percent of the Massachusetts residents questioned had a favorable opinion of Brown. Twenty-six percent view him unfavorably.

A similar poll conducted last September showed Brown with a 58 percent approval rating with 21 percent of the respondents disapproving of him.

Andy Smith is the director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, which conducted the poll for the Boston Globe.

Smith said despite a dip in Brown's popularity compared to last year, he's doing well.

"The percentage of people with an unfavorable opinion of him is low at 26 percent and in a Democratic state, that's pretty surprising," Smith said.

Also, the new survey shows 60 percent of respondents do not know or have any opinion of potential Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

This program aired on September 4, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
