With the Red Sox holding on for a 8-7 win over the Orioles and the Rays beating the Yankees 5-3 Tuesday, Boston and Tampa Bay head into the final day of the regular season tied for the American League wild card.

Boston plays Baltimore and Tampa Bay plays the New York Yankees Wednesday night. Should the Red Sox and Rays remain tied after Wednesday's games, the two teams would meet in a deciding one-game playoff Thursday at 5 p.m. in Tampa Bay.

The Red Sox are in the midst of one of the most epic collapses in team history. On Sept. 1, the Sox owned a 9 1/2 game lead over the Rays in the wild-card race. Eleven days later, after the Rays completed a sweep of the Sox, the Sox held a mere three-game advantage. Now it's down to 0.
