Feds: Bulger Girlfriend Lied To Authorities

Prosecutors say the longtime girlfriend of former Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger should be denied bail because she has lied to federal authorities.

Court documents filed Wednesday say Catherine Greig told Pretrial Services last month in a bid for bail that she had no contact with family or friends in Boston during her 16 years on the run with Bulger, when she'd spoken with her sister and a friend several times.

Prosecutors also say Greig said she'd never left the U.S. during her time on the lam, but later said she and Bulger went to Mexico.

Greig has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to harbor and conceal a fugitive. She and Bulger were arrested in Santa Monica, Calif., in June. Her lawyer says she's not a flight risk.
