Can Gingrich Capitalize On N.H. Newspaper's Endorsement?

Can he capitalize? That's the question many are asking about former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich a day after New Hampshire's largest newspaper, the Manchester Union Leader, endorsed the GOP presidential candidate, bypassing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The latest University of New Hampshire poll finds that only 48 percent of Union Leader readers intend to vote in the Republican primary, whereas 55 percent of New Hampshire Public Radio listeners do. Former Republican congressional candidate Jennifer Horn has been organizing forums with Republican candidates this year, and she said one thing matters most in New Hampshire.

"More important than newspaper endorsements, more important than the endorsements of elected officials or other sorts of political leaders, is the time that you spend with voters," Horn said.

According to Horn the Union Leader is influential among Republicans, but she said it's not enough by itself to help Gingrich consolidate the anti-Romney vote.
