MONT VERNON, N.H. — Texas Rep. Ron Paul wants to abolish the IRS and the Patriot Act, the law passed after 9/11 that restricts civil liberties. That has natural appeal in the “Live Free or Die” state.

Zoe Fimbel lives in the small southern New Hampshire town of Mont Vernon.

“We want someone who truly loves America,” Fimbel said. “Somebody who will lead us in a good way without burdening us with ridiculous taxes and sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.”

The latest polls predict Paul placing second to Mitt Romney with 20 percent of the vote. Fimbel says Paul could do much better.

“I really wish people wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I’m not going to vote for Ron Paul because he can’t win.’ If everybody who said that would vote for him instead of their second best he would have a great chance,” Fimbel said.

Still, Paul hasn’t done many public events in the days before the New Hampshire primary. His campaign says it was the plan all along to take a break between the Iowa caucuses and the primary here. Some observers say he’s taking a long view of the election, and has the money and supporters to sustain him for months.

In Saturday night’s debate, Paul addressed a question on many people’s minds — whether he would run as a third party candidate. He said he’s not planning on it.

“I don’t know why a person can’t reserve judgment and see how things turn out,” Paul said. “In many ways, I’d like to see some changes.”

Change in foreign policy. Changes in government spending. Paul’s best chance at getting those changes might eventually be his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul. Father and son are of the same ideologically, but Rand Paul is a better speaker, 27 years younger, and less cranky than his father. Rand stumped Saturday for his dad and said he hasn’t ruled out his own bid for the presidency in the future.

Ron Paul’s going to come in 2nd place in New Hampshire, I’m sure. Huntsman may be a close third, though. I hope Paul gets at least 25% of the vote (that way, he gets 3 delegates, since NH has proportional allocation). If Romney’s supporters fail to turn out (since they, in general, have very little enthusiasm) Paul could even win, which would be a pleasant surprise.

    The choice is clear.

Please document Ron Paul’s instances of your alleged “crankiness”. He has all of our best interests at heart, and has a deeper love for liberty than any of us will ever understand.

    President Paul!

That is probably the dumbest reason to not vote for someone, “cause he can’t win”. Huh? How do you know? Did you get that reasoning from the mainstream media? You’re going let them tell you who or who can’t win?  He’s won 12 times as a Congressman. Yes, he can win.  Ron Paul 2012!

  • Kevin Masterson

I’m still figuring out who I will support, but Ron Paul has never seemed “cranky” to me.

  • Albert M

Voters who want wars, torture, assassinations, “humanitarian” bombings in oil rich countries, indefinite detentions, drone attacks that kill the innocent, erosion of civil liberties, domestic war on the people (drug war), out-of-control debt and spending, graft and greed, crony capitalism, pandering to special interests, bailouts, more of the same, must NOT vote for Ron Paul.

Voters who want peace, a humane foreign policy, restoration of civil liberties, an end to the war on drugs, sound money, balanced budgets, honesty, integrity and
transparency in government, and a President wholly committed to Constitutional government can vote for Ron Paul.

    Ain’t that difficult a choice.

CRANKY???   Get a new word – like PASSIONATE!  Santorum is the one that seems pretty cranky to me.  And hot-headed, too.  Elect him and we’ll be dropping bombs at the same time we’re praying and having babies.

      LOL. Well said.

if ron paul does not win their is something seriously wrong with the american people and the majority obviously dont want to be free as a nation so if they are stupid enough to vote for anyone else i say let them its only their downfall.

NH I though you were all about freedom and liberties ? I don’t understand why Ron Paul is not winning by a land slide. Dont be a sheep vote for freedom vote Ron Paul.

Journalists seem to be under the impression it’s Dr. Paul running for President, it’s the people running for President with Dr. Paul as their leader. That’s why this can’t be stopped, no matter how hard some will try.

Other than a couple of low punches! it’s a good article, I hope that doesn’t get you in trouble me saying that. Dr. Ron Paul 2012

This election IMO pretty much comes down to if we are going to have a constitution or not in this country.

If Ron Paul doesn’t win, then it’s pretty much over for the constitution.   Bush gutted rights, Obama gutted rights, the other GOP nominees want to gut rights.

A lawful government is not crazy.     And if the people do not stick up for the constitution, then we will not keep it.     It is our duty as citizens to make sure our politicians follow it.     Put down the special interests and understand that this government needs a reality check, and only the people can give it to them.

The Romney campaign is just another 2004 Kerry type campaign.   Where there isn’t very much difference between the candidates, and all we will hear about is how things are mismanaged and tiny nitpicks.    You do not win elections by putting up mirror candidates, you win them by offering real change.

It should be obvious to all, that the only way to defeat Obama is to take him to task on the lies and unkept promises he made.    Those were the issues that got him elected.   Bring the troops home, civil rights and ending corruption on wall st.    He has failed on all these accounts.

It would be the height of ignorance for the GOP to send a candidate who is worse on this issues to face Obama.     Why give Obama the free pass?

Romney and Paul are the only 2 that will be on the ballots in all 50 states.    These are your real choices, none of the others have any chance at winning.

    Make a stand New Hampshire!

I’m sure you have a thesaurus at your disposal.  Use it and find a better word than cranky. Try using  serious, sober, forthright, undeterred, focused, intense, consistent, or pure.

Cranky would be to describe upset for no reason.

15 trillion dollars in debt and a bunch of Neo-con war loving tools on the same stage would make anyone upset.

I feel cranky when I figure out someone is making a decision that drops the value of my savings account.  The Federal Reserve makes me cranky.

But in your description you should at least list consistent in place of cranky.

Is Paul prepared to live up to the logical consequences of his rhetoric?

    • Jhanson

Personal liberty and getting back to the constitution (the little document that started all this prosperity) is rhetoric?  WAKE UP!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/ClimbnPrana Scott Miner

The reason we believe in Paul is because we believe in what our founding fathers established… the Constitution of the US. Paul’s appeal is because he isn’t stumping on rhetoric, he’s speaking the truth and his record shows that he will do what he says.  The logical consequences of Paul’s vision is peace and prosperity.

After listening to Ron Paul, and some follow up reading, it sank in that the Orwellian Big Brother had landed some time ago in the form of the Fed which controls the illusion of money.  An illusion that is used to control the lives of the many for the benefit of the few. And it’s getting worse – see the Jon Stewart clip on what Obama did over Xmas break.  If you want to be free, you better wake up and smell the coffee.

Cranky?  No.  Honest, forthcoming, yes.  Ron Paul tells it like it is.  I guess we in America have become accustomed to having everything sugar coated.  I guess we need some big hair and a fake smile to tell us what we want to hear.  Ron Paul is none of these.  I will gladly accept Paul as my “kooky” uncle or “curmudgeonly” grandpa.  At least I will never wonder where he stands on, well, everything!!!  This man’s picture should be posted next to the word integrity on wikipedia.  Why are we so afraid of the Constitution?  I am a proud “Paulbot”.  RON PAUL 2012 OR BUST!!!!

Did you coin “Presi-clone?”  Excellent description!  What I admire most about Dr. Paul is that he has thoroughly researched his facts and is educating the American people with his principled vision of what this nation was and what it can be.  It is obvious listening to him to see how far we  have strayed, and the damage we have done with our nation building and interfering.  Dr. Paul’s policies want to restore the republic – a far cry from Obama’s who wants to transform us into a social welfare state  Dr. Paul is a breath of fresh air in a land of turmoil dominated by the global corporations and their minions who run for office not to serve us but to enrich themselves.  God  Speed, Dr. Paul, and may He give you the strength to forge ahead spreading  truth and wisdom to all who will listen.

Santorum constantly voted against the 2nd Amendment but voted repeatedly to give Penn State pedophile Jerry Sandusky the congressional Angels in Adoption award. Newt loves illegals (amnesty) more than Americans (Newt wants to bring back child labor for US kids). Mitt thinks corporations are people (killing his general election chances). Ron Paul is the only candidate with a plan to end the TSA and end the endless wars for Israel, it all started a decade ago after a false flag attack.

This election, we must draw a line in the sand.    We The People against the warmongering, control freaks in the establishment, the military industrial complex, and the Goldman Sachs/Credit Suisse/Morgan Stanley’s of the world.   That means no candidates owned by those who caused the economic crisis, got bail outs, and trillions in counterfiet Fed money.   No Romney who is owned by Goldman Sachs.
NH,  stand up for We The People.    Across the nation, hundreds of thousands of us have contributed what we can to Ron Paul in our fight to elect a real patriot, a real veteran, a real leader of the people.
Please, NH.   Make your votes count for something other than more corruption and corporate government.  Vote for RON PAUL.     I don’t care if you think he can’t win.  If you vote for him, he can and he will.  He has been elected in Texas 12 times.   Obviously, he can win.
I would be willing to beg you to please vote for  Dr. Paul.  Save your kids and grandkids from dying in illegal, needless wars.   Save youselves from being forced to pay for more bloodshed and corruption.
WE HAVE A CHOICE THIS TIME !    Please, listen to the voices of millions of Americans who support Ron Paul.   Revolution, a peaceful one, is rumbling loud and strong across the country.
Ron Paul is the only honest candidate.   He is the only one who can beat Obama.
The troops support Ron Paul.    Please support them with your votes for Ron Paul.

We as a People owe it to him to fix corrupt D.C.
30 years of Truth, you really think he
would all of the sudden change his views?
Obviously he does not need the money!
That would just piss off our crooked
    D.C. Boys, Banks, Oil companies.

Ron Paul Has the Most Money for his campaign
    from source of Integrity!
    Donations to Ron Paul!

    GOP Party…………….=0%
    Oil Companies…………=0%
    Lobbyist …………….=0%

I am going to do everything I can to help Ron Paul get elected. I have never in my life felt so compelled to help get someone elected. If all of his supporters do this, he will win! I know this as he is becoming stronger by the minute as everyone seems to be getting it now that we here in the US are in dire need of reform and change or this great country will implode. 1 % ers that are supporting Ron Paul, I salute you! WE the 99 %ers far outnumber the 1 %ers that dont want Ron Paul in so the numbers alone should show what will happen in November if he is given the fair chance to win…….The fair word obviously is the question as for I know unfair practices exist right here in America! God willing he will prevail!

I challenge everyone who supports Dr. Ron Paul to encourage people in their closest circle to see for themselves what Dr. Paul is all about on his website.  Do not trust the main stream media slander.    The media and corrupted establishment have one goal; to get Rominey chosen as the nominee, that glossed over game show host, and let him be the puppet to keep the status quo and keep businesses and Washington in a comfty position for 4 more years.  The easiest way to manipulate people is to keep them uneducated, unaware and controlled by a powerful media.  Happens all the time in countries with a dictatorship.  We are there, folks.  Time to educate the masses with the truth and not manufactured propaganda spoon fed to us by the media with its own agenda.
