BOSTON — Members of the media get their first glimpse of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s $180 million expansion and preservation project Wednesday. It opens to the public a week from Thursday.
The new building, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, features a cutting-edge concert hall, a much bigger café and gift shop. It also features a brand new greenhouse, to the joy of the museum’s chief horticulturalist Stan Kosak, who tends to the Gardner’s lush courtyard.
You can hear his excitement in this sound piece.
