Rowdy UMass Amherst Students Face Disciplinary Action After Super Bowl

It was a quiet night in Boston Sunday night, with no reports of arrests or other problems following the New England Patriots' Super Bowl loss.

But out in Amherst, more than a dozen University of Massachusetts students face disciplinary action after police dispersed a rowdy crowd following the game.

About 1,500 students gathered in front of the main dorms at UMass Amherst. Students say police shot smoke bombs and pepper balls to disperse the crowd.

Alyssa Creamer, managing editor of the student newspaper, said the school warned against rioting.

"We had anticipated that there would be some, so it wasn't shocking or surprising to have smoke bombs and pepper balls going off," Creamer said.

There was no property damage or injuries, according to a university spokesman.
