Catherine Greig might plead guilty.

The girlfriend of James "Whitey" Bulger is considering the guilty plea in connection with a charge that she helped the alleged gangster from South Boston evade capture for more than 16 years.

Bulger and Greig were arrested last June in Santa Monica, Calif.

Greig is being held without bail. She's scheduled to stand trial in May on a single count of conspiracy to harbor a fugitive.

WBUR's David Boeri reports the federal government has failed to pressure Greig into cooperating with them. Boeri says Greig is valuable to prosecutors because she can answer questions about Bulger's years on the run.

Kevin Weeks, a Bulger associate, has told Boeri that Bulger never shared details about his alleged criminal activities with Greig.

Among other charges, Bulger is facing 19 counts of murder.

This program aired on March 9, 2012.
