Rare Paul Revere Print Found In A Book At Brown

While studying an 1811 book, a Brown University preservationist recently made a unique discovery inside the book's back cover: an engraved print made by Paul Revere.

Brown says the print — "Buried with Him by Baptism" — which depicts Jesus and John the Baptist in the Jordan River, is one of only five copies known to exist.

“It appears to be an American original, by an American original," says Richard Noble, the rare materials cataloguer for the University Library, in the Brown article.

But the AP reports that Noble has many questions, "including Revere's reasons for making the print, his relationship with the book's owner, and why it took decades for anyone to notice the rare item."

The book — "The Modern Practice of Physics," by Robert Thomas — was among many donated to the university by the family of Solomon Drowne, who graduated from the Providence school in 1773.
