Boston Police Investigate 2 Fatal Shootings

4/29 update: Boston Police today identified the victim in the Tremont Street fatal shooting as Stephen Perez Jr., 22, of Revere. Multiple reports say Perez was a U.S. Army veteran who had recently returned from Afghanistan.

Family friends told The Boston Globe and WCVB-TV that Perez, an Army sniper, was enrolled in college and had been accepted to Revere's police academy.

"He served his country, and he came back to do something with his life," a family friend told the Globe.

Police say Perez was fatally shot in the back during an altercation outside a club early Saturday, according to the family friend who spoke to the Globe.

BOSTON — Boston Police are investigating two unrelated fatal shootings that occurred last evening and early today.

At 6:30 p.m. last night, police officers responded to a residence at 132 Hyde Park Ave. in Jamaica Plain, where they found a man believed to be in his 20s suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In an unrelated slaying, just before 2 a.m. today, police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 290 Tremont St. in Chinatown. At the scene, they discovered a 22-year-old male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was later pronounced deceased at Tufts Medical Center.

There's no word on possible suspects in either slaying. Boston Police are asking anyone with information on either fatal shooting to call the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470. The fatal shootings are the city's 13th and 14th homicides of the year, and the fifth and sixth in April.
