Looking for a little help to make sense of the state’s new casino gambing law?
As WBUR’s Monica Brady-Myerov reported for our Newscast unit, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has prepared a color-coded version of the law (PDF here), with sections including “Funds Created or Affected by the Gaming Law,” “State Racing Commission Transition” and “Licensing and Oversight of External Operations.”
Commissioner James McHugh told Monica it’s just another way for the public to understand key decisions, as competition for the three casino licenses in Massachusetts heats up.
“It’s a hugely complicated statute,” McHugh said. “It interweaves a whole bunch of subject matters and we thought it would be helpful for our internal use and the public’s use to provide an index that would help people find the subject areas they are interested in.”
The commission’s website also has a FAQ section about the law and the licensing process.
Commissioners have said they want more proactive outreach with the public, especially in communities where casinos might be located.
Monica reports that the commission’s next public forum is in June in Worcester.
