Cape Shark Sightings Prompt Warnings

Officials in Chatham are warning swimmers to stay at least 300 feet away from seals, after several shark sightings in the area.

Harbormaster Stuart Smith says the beaches with the largest seal populations are North and South beaches, which don't get many visitors.

"They're rural, very difficult-to-get-to beaches — you either need to walk a very long way or you need to have a boat, so these are not our main public beaches, which are along Nantucket Sound," he said.

Despite the warnings, all beaches remain open.

The latest shark sightings in Chatham came Tuesday morning.

NECN reports that an additional sighting was made off Orleans on Tuesday.
